MetaTourism: June Rundown
What's happening in the world of Metaverse & Tourism this month...
Welcome Metatourists,
It’s safe to say that we are well and truly in peak tourist season. Everywhere I go I am meeting tourists here in Ireland. They come for the Guinness and stay for the charm, many never leave. June has been a busy month here at the MTA as we continue to explore the range of skills that tourism professionals can bring to our new immersive environments and also dive into future threats to the industry that we call care deeply about.
Last month we began to look at 6 overall threats to the future of the tourism sector. From Mass tourism to political instability, these macro economic factors are sure to play a role in the sustainable development of travel products and services. This month we dove a little deeper into the first threat, Mass Tourism see here.
Also, this month I would like to extend a warm welcome to Rhett from Martini Travel who I had the pleasure of speaking with about all things travel related and the role of virtual environments in future travel experiences. Thank you for joining us Rhett and we look forward to exploring the hybrid future of travel with you.

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT - SITEnetwork
SITEnetwork has teamed up with Paralell Worlds to create a hybrid metaverse for tourism, based on engagement in real places and in their digital twins. The digital twins create gateways for visitors to experiences places, cultures and history before during or after a visit.
The group use NFC chips embedded into clothes and bracelets that can be used to earn souvenirs through gamification and this will be used at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year. The virtual spaces showcase the destination architecture and culture and are driven by marquee events.
Their first confirmed destinations are New York, Mexico and Scotland. They are working directly with tourism bodies to build their solutions. You can read more about this exciting project here.
